Butterkup’s Tax Prep started totally by accident. But after my first “tax season” I realized I was good and I could earn extra money.
In 2004 I went to Liberty Tax School in Clifton Park, NY. I passed the test, and earned a Professional Preparer Tax Identification Number, an Electronic Filing Identification Number and was told I was an Electronic Return Originator. The IRS doesn’t use ERO anymore, but I renew my PTIN and EFIN every year.
With the help of referrals from current customers, I’ve gone from 30 tax customers to 150.
I also attend 18+ hours of continuing education for tax preparation. I attend classes in person and I attend webinars via the Internet.
I also read the Pub 17, which is 300-500 pages long, it changes every year and is considered the “bible” for tax preparers.
When I’m not doing tax returns, I enjoy my two horses Sonny and Ozark, riding my motorcycle and time with my family.
